The goal of the Deep Impact mission was to understand the physical and chemical properties of a comet as a function of depth below the surface. The mission delivered an impactor spacecraft onto the nucleus of 9P/Tempel 1. It was launched on January, 12, 2005.

The Rosetta mission was launched on March 2, 2004. It was to do a detailed study of comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko. It was the first spacecraft to orbit a comet, and to have a lander on a comet.
