    Description

    Periodic comet 19P / Borrelly was discovered by Alphonse Borrelly during a routine search for comets at Marseilles, France on December 28, 1904. It has dimensions 8 × 4 × 4 km, and an orbit semi-major axis distance 3.59 AU with eccentricity 0.624. It is a member of the Jupiter family, with an orbital period of 6.85 yr. The Deep Space 1 spacecraft flew by comet Borrelly on Sept. 22, 2001, traveling at a relative speed of 16.5 km/s and coming within 2200 km of Borrelly's nucleus.
