2867 Šteins, is an E-type asteroid located in the inner main asteroid belt (MAB). It was discovered on 4 November 1969, by Soviet astronomer Nikolai Chernykh at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory in Nauchnij on the Crimean peninsula. It has dimensions 6.83 km × 5.70 km × 4.42 km, a 6.049 hr rotation period, and an orbit semi-major axis distance of 2.3633 AU. On 5 September 2008, the Rosetta spacecraft flew by 2867 Šteins at a distance of about 800 km and a relative speed of 8.6 km/s.
