Mars Odyssey Thermal Emission Imaging System

    Description

The THEMIS flight instrument is a combined infrared and visible multi-spectral pushbroom imager. It has a 12-cm effective aperature telescope and co-aligned infrared and visible area arrays. A major feature of this instrument is the use of an uncooled IR microbolometer array operated at ambient temperature, eliminating the need for complex passive or active cryogenic coolers.
