Solar wind plasma measurements are made with 270-deg electrostatic analyzers (ESP) in this investigation. Both ions and electrons in the energy range between 0.03 and 16 keV are measured with the ESP employing micro-channel plates. Three-dimensional distribution of the solar wind plasma within plus or minus 30 deg of the ecliptic plane will be measured. The objective of this experiment is to measure the three-dimensional velocity distributions of the solar-wind ions and electrons in the energy range from 30 eV up to 16 keV within +/- 30deg of the ecliptic plane. During the cometary encounter, the interaction of the solar wind with the cometary ionosphere will be investigated, paying particular attention to the mass loading of the solar win... ...Show More
